Henri NiittymäkiSenior Expert in Decommissioning and Safeguards at Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority Finland
Henri Niittymäki works for the Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority Finland, STUK as senior inspector. He gained his first regulatory knowledge in 2006 for the use of radiation in health care and passive dosimetry research. He then moved into European Organization for Nuclear Research, CERN, and worked in Finnish Geodetic Institute’s laser scanning project as a researcher. Henri has now spent over 10 years in the field of nuclear waste regulation, decommissioning and safeguards. He works as waste expert in Olkiluoto 3 regulatory oversight project. In 2016, he joined the Nuclear Materials Safeguards. His work at STUK has focused on range of areas in radioactive waste management including decommissioning, radioactive material transports and the most recent nuclear safeguards. Henri has knowledge of the decommissioning plans of the nuclear facilities and safety assessments for low and intermediate level waste disposal. His career include consultation and active participation of the IAEA and the OECD/NEA working groups.
