In autumn 2015, Saipem was engaged by ENI in an early engineering activity to develop the subsea field solution and strategy for an EPCI fast track development of the subsea field of Zohr, a giant gas field located 190 km offshore Nile Delta in 1,500 m water depth.
The Zohr Accelerated Start Up phase comprised of Production Manifolds, Production Clad flowlines, flowline to manifold rigid tie-in spool system, export lines to shore including shore approach, Glycol injection, and main control umbilical.
Awarded to Saipem in April 2016, the pipeline system was designed, procured, and successfully pre-commissioned in October 2017, ready for the 1st gas in December 2017.
This paper highlights the engineering and execution challenges for an extremely fast track project, covering early engineering engagement with Company, key aspects for the design stage of the pipeline system, technology solutions adopted for the project execution (for example, new patented welding solutions and innovative trenching tool), planning and management of the offshore installation campaign with up to 7 main vessels utilised within a short time period.
