Raj Ramar manages Flow Assurance, Materials, Offshore Pipelines, Subsea Structures, Designer, Geotechnical and FEA team at McDermott UK. For more than 16 years he has been involved in the design and analysis of offshore pipelines, risers, subsea structures, umbilicals, flexibles and topsides and composite structures working for engineering firms/consultancies and research organisations.
Raj’s work involves technical management as well as performing design and analysis of flowlines/pipelines and subsea structures at concept, FEED and detailed design stages of SURF projects. He has significant experience in supporting deep-water SURF EPCIC tenders for major capital projects which includes RFQs preparation, TBE, CBE for long lead items and developing detailed engineering SOW, CTRs, manning and project schedule.
Raj has gained experience in pipe-in-pipe, flowlines and risers reeling, CP and thermal insulation design engineering. In particular he has significant experience in static and dynamic non-linear finite element analyses to assess structural strength and integrity of the offshore pipelines whilst providing practical solutions to structural and offshore pipelines problems.
Raj has worked on flowlines global buckling and walking analyses on various deep-water SURF projects. He has provided practical solutions to mitigate the flowlines from buckling, walking and free span. In addition, he has significant knowledge in designing tie-in spools with CS and SDSS materials by addressing HISC.
Raj has been responsible for technical validation plan for CRA clad and lined pipes for reeling and S-lay installation which includes simulation of bending tests using detailed finite element analyses, full scale bending tests, contingency plan for projects and supporting ECA assessment.
Raj has worked on a number of key projects including Operators and EPCIC Contractors such as INPEX, Gazprom, Total, BP, ExxonMobil, Chevron, Anadarko, Tullow, ENI, Enquest, Premier Oil, Statoil, Shell, Subsea 7, Heerema Marine Contractors, Saipem, Oceaneering, GE, Aker Solutions, Wintershall, Helix, Marsol and Tekmar Energy.
