Pete Bryant

Profile

Pete currently works for EDF Nuclear New Build leading the Emergency Preparedness and Decommissioning Teams for the Hinkley Point C Site. He is additionally one of the Radioactive Waste Advisers for the project. Pete additionally holds an Associate Tutor position at the University of Surrey in Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety. He will take over as President of the Society for Radiological Protection (SRP) in May 2019.

Pete graduated from the University of Bath with a BSc in Physics and University of Surrey with a MSc in Radiation and Environment Protection. His career started off working in Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Consultancy which included holding Technical Leadership Roles for a number of Nuclear Licensee's including as an Assurance Lead at AWE and Radioactive Discharge Specialist at EDF.

He has previously been a Key-Note Speaker at numerous events including the Westminster Energy, Environment and Transport Forum in the area of Decommissioning and Waste Management, Japanese Health Physics Society in the application of ALARA and IRPA in the areas of Safety Culture and Communicating Radiation Risk.

Pete is published in the areas of Dose Assessment and Radiation Safety Culture and is a former recipient of the SRP's Founders Medal and Energy UKs Young Professional of the Year Award. He also recently published a book on “Radioactive Discharges and Human Health Effects”.

Pete has been the primary point of contact within the SRP in relation to BREXIT and the UK Exit of the Euratom Treaty. This has included contributing to the production of Position Papers for the Society and leading engagement with UK Government.
